Lining a wool blanket with fabric?
I am making a crochet woolly blanket for a friend for christmas and plan to sew motifs and cross stitch on the front so I want to cover up the back. Is it possible to sew a fabric ie cotton or fleece lining on the back of a crochet blanket? Any tips or suggestions for something else to try? Thanks for any comments
What's better for wool blankets -- hand washing or dry cleaning?
Reading other posts on Yahoo Answers and just looking around the web generally, there's a consistent recommendation to dry clean as a first choice for wool. But I've also heard that dry cleaning can shorten the life of wool and of course it's well accepted that dry cleaning is environmentally harmful. So what's wrong with delicate washing and is dry cleaning really better?I guess part of the thinking is that wool is a relatively natural substance. So is water. Petrolyeum hydrosuperchemical or whatever it is isn't. There must be a good way to clean it without alteration sheep don't shrink when it rains, after all .
What is the warmest wool blanket for winter?
LL Bean used to have it. I don't see it in the catalogs and website anymore. It is a white wool blanket with multi colored stripes. There are several levels. The blankets have notches in them. The three notches is one level of warmth. The five notch is very warm and very expensive. The Native Americans used to trade them with the white settlers. I forget who makes them. Do you know. These blankets are wicked warm I just can't find them anywhere any more.
How do you keep a wool blanket soft after you wash it?
I know that you wash wool blankets by hand with lukewarm water and 'Woolite' and then gently squeeze the water out with towels then lay it flat to dry but the wool fibers still seem to get hard. Does fabric softner help? I heard that for Buffolo Sweaters you use some kind of oil? Is it the same for wool blankets?
Where can I buy wool blankets in LA?
So I'm going backpacking and I don't have a sleeping bag. I just want to get a wool blanket or two that I can tie on to the outside of my pack. I'm in Los Angeles, and I don't know where to go to get them. Anyone know where I could go? Preferably some place where they'd be cheap, but whatever. ThanksP.S. I suppose they don't exactly have to be wool...just something that'll keep me moderately warm when I'm sleeping outside this summer.
Can I wash a pure wool blanket?
According to their tags, they are made in Iceland by Samband for Landau, 100% pure wool. The tag also says dry clean only. They used to belong to my deceased grandparents, so I don't want to mess them up. They are throw blankets, small enough to fit into a washer. Can I do a cold water machine wash? Or must I head to the dry cleaners?
